Environmental Program

Fireworks Australia has committed to taking action on climate change by offsetting greenhouse gas emissions through Gold Standard renewable energy carbon credits. We are developing a business strategy aimed at improving our environmental sustainability.

The push to ‘go green’ has come from our desire to engage responsibly and sustainably with the community. This has resulted in Fireworks Australia choosing internationally respected, Australia based, carbon reduction and management company Climate Friendly, to help implement a long-term carbon footprint measurement and offset strategy.

As a first step Fireworks Australia has measured emissions associated with the operation of our plant and facilities and opted to offset the 19 tonnes of unavoidable emissions by purchasing Gold Standard carbon credits.

Running in parallel to this program has been an internal scheme looking at energy and waste in our operations. The results of this energy and environmental audit has resulted in Fireworks Australia initiating the following measures; increasing building ventilation to reduce A/C usage, planting shade trees, replacement of light bulbs to energy efficient units, installation of lighting timers, reduced hot water settings, a plan to install some solar power panels and increased recycling of copper wire consumables. This will not be the end of our initiatives and we hope to progress even further as we balance the needs of our clients with future improvements.

The most innovative measure starts in August 2009. After that time all fireworks displays conducted by Fireworks Australia will have the opportunity to have the related carbon emissions offset with a Gold Standard renewable energy carbon credit for a very minor cost (similar to what some airlines are offering now). In this way we are hoping to further mitigate our impact on climate change.
